With a couple of days to adventure around Doha before heading to the Maldives, Jen and I decided to bulk the Hyatt Regency Oryx Doha. I had previously written about this property as one of the best Category 1 hotels in Hyatt’s portfolio. Costing only 5,000 points as a standard award, the Hyatt Regency Oryx beats many category 3-4 properties out there and was one of my favorite Hyatt Regencies. Here’s the full review!

Booking
I booked two nights at the hotel using a grand total of 10,000 World of Hyatt points. I valued them at about $120 (1.2 cents per point). Subsequently room rates are under $100 and award nights could be 3,500 points during off peak days.
I’m a Hyatt loyalist and have Hyatt Globalist elite status, which I deem the best Hotel Elite Status available. This provides complimentary breakfast, late checkout, and room/suite upgrade if available. During my visit, a portion of the hotel was under renovation so no suite upgrade was available.
Location
The hotel is just quick train ride from Hamad International Airport (DOH) and you get off at Umm Ghuwailina station. From there it’s a short walk to the property. Subsequently, you could take a cheap taxi to the hotel.
The property is also working on a pilot program to offer complimentary shuttle service to and from the airport and that should be another reason to stay at this hotel. The property is located away from the bustling areas of the city, but getting to most attractions is a quick train ride away.
** Public Transportation is insanely affordable in Doha with daily train passes under $2 USD.
The Room
We had a high floor king room which was about the standard size of a Hyatt Regency King Room. The room featured a coffee machine, water kettle, and complimentary water. The bathroom had a nice rainfall shower and great light up mirror. From the outside, the hotel seemed ordinary, but our room was sleek and modern. The AC was roaring which was perfect for our stay. Outside temp was hovering around 100 degrees Fahrenheit and the cool room was a great escape from the scorching desert heat.
Food
Breakfast was served daily at the hotel’s main dining spot. The buffet was expansive with a variety of options including Asian and Middle Eastern options. Additionally, there was a fully dedicated area for breads and pastries including a wide selection of Western and locally options. During the morning, the breakfast area was always relatively quiet. Jen and I started the data at 7:30am and ate right when they opened which may have also been the issue. I really enjoyed the amount of options and quality of food provided.

Happy Hours – Regency Club
The hotel also had a regency club that served snacks and refreshments throughout the day with a longer service for daily “Happy Hour”. The food options during happy hour were actually pretty delicious with one of my favorites being a watermelon and feta salad. The club was small compared to previous regency clubs, but the overall design along with large class windows that offered atrium views created an elevated ambiance.
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this hotel. From the amazing value to the elegant design, this property was one of the best Hyatt Regency Hotels Jen and I have ever stayed at. Doha has quickly become one of my favorite cities for a quick stopover. The city is both modern, clean, and home to a wide breadth of cultures.
