Emirates and United Airlines recently announced a new partnership that will provide a significant boost to their respective businesses. This partnership will enable the two airlines to collaborate on a range of services, including codesharing, loyalty programs, and airport lounges. The partnership is expected to benefit customers of both airlines, as well as the wider aviation industry.

One of the key benefits of the partnership is the codeshare agreement. This will allow Emirates and United Airlines to sell tickets on each other’s flights, effectively creating a larger network for both airlines. For example, Emirates passengers will be able to connect to over 100 destinations across the United States, Canada, and Mexico on United Airlines flights. Similarly, United Airlines passengers will have access to Emirates’ extensive network in the Middle East, Asia, and Africa. This will not only provide greater convenience for passengers, but it will also open up new markets for both airlines.

Another benefit of the partnership is the integration of their loyalty programs. Emirates’ Skywards program and United Airlines’ MileagePlus program will be able to earn miles of code sharing flights . Customers can also redeem miles for flights on either airline, although Emirates charges a heft fuel surcharge. This will provide added flexibility for customers and it’s never a bad thing to have more options.

My Thoughts

Overall this new partnership has taken flight and could be interesting. I don’t see much added value of the award flights end and this wouldn’t be a great way to use your hard earned points just to pay egregious fuel surcharges.
