Quick Take: American Express Gets it Right!

During the time of the Covid-19 pandemic, travel has all but come to a standstill. Many of us have luxury or premium travel cards with most of their benefits rendered all but worthless at this time. While most card issuers have issued bonus points on dining and grocery, American Express has gone above and beyond. I don’t have an affiliation with American Express, only a pair of credit cards, yet the company continues to surprise me.

American Express Statement Credit

I have both the American Express Platinum Card and the American Express Hilton Business Card. Just a couple of days ago, I received an email from the company noting that I would be recieving a one-time statement credit of $50 for being a loyal customer. This amount is more than half of the annual fee and was a pleasant surprise as my renewal fee was not coming until July.

Other Credits for American Express Platinum

While I do think a statement credit will also given to my American Express Platinum card when it gets closer to the renewal date(November) the company did enhance the card’s benefit with monthly statement credits through the end of the year. For the rest of 2020, Platinum cardholders can receive a $20 statement credit on streaming services and another $20 credit on phone service per month. At minimum, you should be able to take advantage of the streaming credit netting you $160 with a potential to maximize at a value of $320.

My Take

I may be a tad biased since I think earning American Express Membership reward points is extremely easy due to their ongoing partnership with Rakuten, but the company continues to surprise me. With the introduction of addition benefits on their Platinum card for the remainder of 2020, the company continues to impress. While I only have several American Express Cards, this show of good faith has definitely caught my eye. I might just consider opening up a few more cards in the next year.
