Simply Spectacular: Grand Hyatt Bangkok Erawan Review

I spent 5 days in Thailand with my parents and had the opportunity to pick from a nice selection of hotels. Being a Hyatt Globalist, I decided to book a 4 night stay at the Grand Hyatt Bangkok, a five star property that is perfectly situated in the heart of Bangkok. This property was built in 1991 and sits next to the Erawan Shrine and right across the street from super mall Central World. The hotel boasts 380 rooms with 44 suites and has over 20 floors of rooms with a club on the 17th floor. Here’s the full review.

Booking

When looking at rates, the Grand Hyatt Erawan was about $160 per night or 15,000 points per night. At that rate, I decided to pay cash and apply one of my suite upgrade certificates to get a confirmed upgrade to a King Suite. Since I was traveling with my parents, we definitely needed the extra space. As a Hyatt Globalist, I get waived resort fees on all bookings which would have otherwise cost $40 per night.

Arrival

Being my first time in Thailand, I went the slightly more expensive route and booked a private car transfer from BKK Airport with the hotel. We arrived around noon from Hong Kong and while immigration was a bit slow, we were well on our way to the Hotel within 40 minutes of deplaning. Once we cleared customs, there was a hotel staff member waiting for us to take us to the car. The ride to the hotel took about 40 minutes due to heavy traffic in the city, but once we arrived, the property was truly stunning. The manager promptly greeted us and we were able to head directly to our suite and skip the check in process.

The Room

My suite was on the 17th floor just one floor above the club. Our room was a corner suite that was beautifully designed with a large living room that included a business work station. There was also a small restroom near the entrance of the room. The bedroom was spacious and was accompanied by a walk in closet and bathroom with double sinks, a rainfall shower, and a soaking tub.

Our room was also stocked with a Nespresso machine along with instant coffee which is really popular in Southern Asia. There was also a mini bar with reasonable prices as everything is cheaper in Thailand. Finally, there was also a small fruit plater filled with local fruits that was replenished daily. This seemed to be a gift from the property and my dad ate all the fruit every day.

Amenities

The hotel had an outdoor pool, a fully equipped gym, and a spa. I did a couple of workouts at the gym which had a nice selection of dumbells and a bench press. There was also a smith machine and a variety of workout machines including leg press and tri-cep extension machines. In addition to the mentioned weights, there was also a decent selection of treadmills, stationary bikes, and a few ellipticals available. I stuck the getting an hour lift every time, but the gym is open to the public for an expensive membership.

There was also a nice club lounge at the property which served breakfast and evening bites. As a Hyatt Globalist member, I had to the option to try both the breakfast buffet in the lobby and the club. I definitely recommend the breakfast buffet in the lobby if possible. The club also has drinks available throughout the day with their main highlight being Thai Milk Tea.

Food

Food at the hotel was excellent. The lounge of the 16th serves breakfast, refreshments thorough out the day, and lite bites in the evening. The number of options at the lounge is the best I’ve ever seen, and

Final Thoughts

The Grand Hyatt Bangkok was stunning and simply an amazing property to visit. From the gorgeous lobby to the modern and elegant room designs, this property impressed me. The staff was ultra friendly and the hotel was centrally located to most of the iconic shopping centers in Bangkok. I’m was thoroughly impressed by the property and will definitely comeback(this time with Jen!).
