After spending sometime in Thailand, it was time for me to being my journey to London. While looking for flights, I came across one ticket for Qatar Airways which included a flight from Bkk-Doha on the Boeing 777-300 on their non Q-Suite Business Class. I would then spend a half day venturing in Doha before flying on the Q-Suite configuration to London via the Airbus A350.
Booking
I spent 75,000 American Airline Miles and I believe $5.60 in taxes and fees for the journey from Bangkok to London. With the ability to fly over 14 hours in business and try out the world renown Qatar Al Mourjan Business Class Lounge, this was awesome value.
Pre-Departure
Getting up early for my 9:15am flight out of Bangkok wasn’t easy. I woke up at 6am and took a Grab to the airport. Upon Arrival, I was able to use the priority check in line for Business Class and Oneworld elites. The line was decently long and even at the brink of what felt like dawn, the airport was in full hustle and bustle mode.
After check in, I made my way over to the lounge. I can’t remember the lounge I visited, but it was also accessible with Priority Pass. The offerings were meager at best, but it was a great place to catch a quick snooze before boarding my flight.
Upon boarding my flight, I was truly taken away. Qatar Airways had a very well organized boarding process in BKK and the staff was a 10/10. The flight attendant gave me a quick rundown of the seat functions as soon as I got to my seat and pre-departure drinks were served. Since there are two entry doors on the 777-300, economy passengers did not trek through the aisles. My meal order was taken a little bit after and the overall experience was captivating. Qatar definitely sets the Gold Standard in terms of service.
Cabin
While it would have been nice to sit in a Q-Suite for both flights, this Boeing 777-300 was set up with the standard reverse herringbone setup. This is what you would typically find on most business class cabins albeit some now have doors. The cabin showed minimal signs of usage and had a bar in the galley.
Food
Before this flight, I never imagined that airplane food could be this good. I ordered the beef dish which was excellent. Starters of course were also wonderful as the Arabic Mezze and Smoke Salmon really hit the spot. I was thoroughly impressed by how quickly service commenced and the overall friendliness of the staff. This felt leaps and bounds above what some other airlines offer.
Overall Thoughts
I was mind blown with how amazing Qatar Airways was with everything from their pre-departure experience to the impressive cabin and the ultra-friendly staff, Qatar is definitely one of the top airlines in the world. I have a wonderful time flying this segment with Qatar, with the catering being excellent and very delicious. I think the one area that gave this flight a slight blemish was the amenity kit which came in a box versus a pouch. I tend to enjoy collecting amenity kits and would have loved a pouch.
